United States Territory : 150th anniversary of the Congregation - August 15th, 2015

Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!
Break forth into joyful songs of praise! (Ps 98;4)

The feast of the Assumption was the joyous ‘triune’ occasion of honoring Mary, celebrating the 60th jubilee of Sr. Ana Virginia Figueroa and the 150th Anniversary of our Congregation. Marie Esther Healthcare Center in Marlborough, Massachusetts was the perfect setting for Community, family and friends to gather. Sr. Annette Allain, Coordinator, gathered a team that did honor to all three aspects of the celebration. It seems she may have ‘hijacked’ Sr. Mary Keenan who was on vacation; it was such an unexpected joy to have Sr. Mary and her brother, John, with us. (Sr. Mary hails from Ireland and serves on the LSA International Council in France.)

Fr. Eugene Sawicki, chaplain of the Little Sisters, was the celebrant of the Mass. For the Eucharist there were two significant items on the altar: 1. The Chalice was used by Fr. Pernet during his visit to the United States in our early foundation. 2. The hand embroidered Altar Cloth was brought back by Sr. Anne Mary Blute who served in Ethiopia for a short time with the Irish Province. Both of these added tangible signs of our International Dimension during this 150th Anniversary Year.
Sr. Ana’s family from Florida, the Bronx, NY and many of her friends from Dorchester were present. The family of Sr. Susanne Lachapelle were among us in anticipation of her return to her East Harlem community the following day after a remarkable recovery from having a brain tumor removed in March. Sr. Annette’s family, forever enriching the Little Sister’s lives, were well represented; her mother and father who recently celebrated 71 years of marriage were present - another cause of celebration! Friends, long time members of the Worcester fraternity, members of LSA Family in Mission, past and present staff of Pernet Family Health Service (Worcester, MA), Project Hope (Roxbury, MA) and LSA Family Health Service (East Harlem, NY) together, made a ‘joyful noise’ while celebrating Mass and sharing a meal.
Recitation of the Pact to Our Lady highlighted God’s faithfulness to us, our devotion to Mary and our trust in God’s providential love.
By Sr. Carole, Little Sister of the Assumption
If you live with our Lord
You will become like Him;
You will end up thinking,
Acting and loving like Him.
You will transmit His Life.
