Tractor for Landless Farmers !

There was great joy for a settlement of Landless Farmers in Minais Gerais ,South Brazil, when Bride Counihan from the Anglo Celtic Province made a monitoring visit there.

Some years ago Sr. Gertrudes, LSA (Tabao de Serra, Community, Sao Paulo) brought Bride to visit this settlement to see if there was any possibility of getting funding from Irish Aid for a tractor and trailer for the 18 families who manually worked the land. With the help of Gertrudes, Bride and the Anglo Celtic Province, money was eventually secured through Misean Cara (Irish Aid) and PAL, our good friends who fundraise and support projects in Latin America. There was such joy at getting the tractor after so many years of phoning, texting, and answering endless questions. It made all the work entailed very worthwhile.
These families were once landless, but were given a settlement on which they could live and cultivate the land. Each family got 14-15 acres of land, but could only cultivate a few acres as they did not have the necessary machinery, and all work had to be done manually. The families cultivate beans, corn, sugar cane, coffee, and some fruits such as bananas and oranges for consumption. They also sell some produce in the local market.
We give thanks with them that their dream has come true.
