Commemoration Algeria Martyrs
Lyon, September 17th, 2016
In this year 2016 we are marking the twentieth anniversary of the death of our nineteen sisters and brothers who were assassinated in Algeria, and the eight religious congregations of which they were members are going to meet, together with their families. This will be the first time, since the Jubilee of the witness to the faith in May 2000 at Rome, that we will all be together. A celebration like this fits in with the beatification cause that is under way, a common cause for the nineteen whose lives continue to bear fruit in the Church and outside it.
This commemoration day will take place on Saturday, 17 September 2016, in Lyon.
It is intended to be in the spirit and the message of our brothers and sisters, a message of peace, of fraternity and of respect for persons, notably the poorest, to be held in contact with Muslims. The Muslim community of Lyon is associated with the preparation of this commemoration.
We are happy with this initiative so as to celebrate Sister Paul Hélène as well as our martyred brothers and sisters of Algeria. Associating the Muslim community of Lyon with this celebration is fully in the spirit of those who, out of love for this people, had chosen not to leave their mission territory.
You can be united with this commemoration through prayer.
